Modified Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE to kick off most extreme electric expedition ever

PARIS, France – A specially modified Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE is being readied to embark on the world’s first ever electric expedition to travel from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole.

Arctic Trucks, a specialist in vehicles for polar expeditions, worked in partnership with Nissan’s engineering and design teams to prepare the Ariya for harsh conditions such as ice fields, thick snow, mountain climbs and desert dunes.

The Ariya that will participate in the expedition has been modified with an even more robust exterior, with a full equipment list that includes raised suspension and wheel arches enlarged to accommodate the large tires, plus an additional body kit. Amidst preparations to be protected against some of the most extreme conditions on the planet, the Ariya will undergo the most innovative and challenging test yet.

Modifications made to the Ariya were intentionally minimal so that the car would retain its formidable original structure. The expedition car retained its factory battery-powered electric propulsion, with two engines associated with Nissan’s innovative e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system, developed exclusively for electric and electrified powertrains.

Our global team has put heart and soul into making the Ariya a very special product. We developed it with the vision that it should fulfill its role in various environments.“ commented Matthew Weaver, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe.

The most noticeable changes are the raised suspension and beefy 39-inch off-road tires, chosen to ensure the Expedition Ariya can tackle the toughest terrains and conditions. In addition to the incredible external design and a cozy interior that looks more like a lounge, an espresso machine was built in so that British adventurer Chris Ramsey and his wife Julie Ramsey have the necessary comfort on their trip to the South Pole.
