Moderna and Pfizer: No Link to Guillain-Barré Syndrome – Recent Study Confirms

A recent study claims that Moderna and Pfizer are not responsible for Guillain-Barré syndrome. Unlike some adenovirus vaccines, they are not linked to this syndrome.

Moderna and Pfizer: no risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome

Messenger RNA vaccines, such as Moderna and Pfizer, do not increase the risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome. According to the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) and Health Insurance in France, researchers have confirmed this conclusion. This investigation was published in the journal Neurology in October.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare disease where the immune system attacks peripheral nerves, causing pain, numbness and muscle weakness.

A few cases of this syndrome were linked to the AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines, which used an adenovirus. These vaccines were used in France for a while, before being withdrawn.

Guillain-Barré risk increased in case of coronavirus infection

The impact of Guillain-Barré syndrome varies depending on the coronavirus infection and the type of vaccine.

A retrospective study analyzed the records of nearly 2,000 people hospitalized for the syndrome between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2022. The results show that the AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines significantly increase the risk of developing this syndrome. In addition, in the event of coronavirus infection, the risk is even higher. This is why, according to this study: “ There was no statistically significant increase in the risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome following administration of messenger RNA vaccines“.
