Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) might mark the franchise’s return to PC on Steam, as artwork for the highly anticipated title recently appeared on the site.
While many Call of Duty fans will be quick to point out that the iconic first-person shooter series is predominantly a console franchise, it’s not. Since 2003, CoD games have been released on various platforms, including PC and handheld versions. However, in recent years, the PC versions have been locked behind the Battle.Net launcher along with other popular Activision Blizzard games, rather than being made available through Steam.
Over the years, fans have been asking to bring the game back to the Valve-owned platform, just to give them another option. And with the release of Modern Warfare 2, that might finally happen.
On May 29th, some overly-eyed fans noticed that Artwork for Modern Warfare 2 (2022) appeared on Steam – in which the image of Simon “Ghost” Riley’s iconic skull mask is covered in green and black, which is painfully similar to the official cover from the upcoming game. But the game still does not have a page, just a banner.
If the series returns to Steam, it will be the first Call of Duty game to be released on a Valve-owned platform since Call of Duty: WWII and Modern Warfare: Remastered, which were released in 2017. While the aforementioned Black Ops 3 had DLC releases throughout 2018, it just wasn’t a new game.
As noted, the new game has not appeared on Steam as a new or upcoming release, and searching for Modern Warfare 2 only returns results for the 2009 version at the moment.
