Apprenticeship time for cosmetics (cosmetology) and foot care (podology) is extended from two to three years – new four-year training regulations apply to popular combinations
Vienna (OTS) – The requirements for the teaching professions of cosmetics (cosmetology) and foot care (podology) have increased significantly in recent years and have become more complex: comprehensive skills in the area of individual advice are required, and the focus on hygiene and health is more important than ever. In addition, many new, job-relevant treatment techniques have been developed.
“There have been profound developments in both industries in recent decades, which have resulted in the two-year apprenticeship period becoming too short to train apprentices in all areas with the intensity that is important to us,” says Federal Guild Master Dagmar Pointy.
This will now be possible in the future: together with employee representatives, new training regulations with a duration of three years each were drawn up for the areas of cosmetics (cosmetology) and foot care (podiatry).
For the particularly popular form of double apprenticeship, a separate training regulation lasting four years was developed, which will enable both activities (pedicure and cosmetics) to be addressed equally when attending vocational school in the future.
“Especially with the double apprenticeship, young people now have twice as many chances for a successful career,” says Christine Heitzinger, chairwoman of the services department in the vida union, which is responsible for the new training regulations on the employee side. “Physical services directly to people are a responsible activity. Higher quality and varied training also means better chances of a higher income,” emphasizes Heitzinger.
The new training regulations were announced on Friday and will come into force on February 1, 2024. New apprenticeship contracts for the training courses extended from two to three years or for the training in combination occupations extended to four years will be able to be concluded from this point onwards.
What innovations have been implemented?
In contrast to the current training regulations, some of which date back to 1996, in the area Foot care (podology) In the future, for example, there will be the opportunity to learn topics such as nail braces, nail prosthetics and in-depth knowledge in the area of diabetic foot care as part of the training.
At the cosmetics (cosmetology) In the future, apprentices will be able to receive comprehensive training in the greatly expanded spectrum of preparations, active ingredients and devices. In general, particularly intensive attention will be paid to the topic of hygiene and expanded knowledge will be passed on to the new generation of specialists.
“We want to inspire young people to do apprenticeships in our industries: good, comprehensive training that meets the latest and most up-to-date standards makes a significant contribution to the attractiveness of professions in which you can do good for many people,” Zeibig and Heitzinger are convinced .(PWK470/HSP)
