The show was canceled by the management of Czech Television at the end of July, even though it had been included in the autumn program a few days before. According to an earlier announcement by the CEO of Czech Television, Jan Souček, the program was canceled by the program board, among other things, due to violations of the CT code, which was repeatedly noted by the CT Board, as well as violations of the law, which was noted by the Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting.
It was mainly about not providing space for the opinion of the other side or mocking it or not providing proper context in the reports. The publication of a private conversation between Fridrichová and the former head of the Reporters program Mark Wollner directly led to the cancellation.
In mid-August, Czech Television announced that all reporters of the canceled news program would move to other television newsrooms, Fridrichová took time to think. Before that, she criticized the management of CT for the reasons for canceling the program. “The explanation so far does not seem quite solid, and it seems that the public has a little trouble accepting it,” said Fridrichová last Monday at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Czech Television called due to the cancellation of the program.
Fridrichová announced her end on Friday in a post on the social network Facebook. “Thank you to all viewers for your favor and for the certainty that critical journalism, even if uncomfortable, is very necessary,” wrote the former presenter
The program 168 hodin ČT has been broadcasting since 2006. During its existence, it has produced three and a half thousand reports. Last year, the show had an average viewership of 533,000 viewers, roughly one in six Czechs with a TV on watched it. CT plans to replace 168 hours with other formats. He is currently preparing three or four.
