During his speech at the conference organized by UNESCO, on February 22 and 23 in Paris on the theme “For a Trusted Internet – Towards Principles for the Regulation of Digital Platforms for Information as a Public Good”, the manager pointed out that “digital platforms act on a global market; they must therefore be held accountable on this scale”.
L. Akharbach who is also president of the Network of African Communication Regulatory Bodies also addressed the issue of the assessment of content moderation by digital platforms, deploring that the measures of certain platforms “under pressure from public opinion” remain “little diligent and inefficient due to the very fact that the platforms do not devote sufficient technical and human resources to it to guarantee a safe digital environment for users”. In this sense, the president of the HACA considers that it is “it is important to put in place public policies dedicated to the empowerment of users of the digital public space and to the promotion of a thoughtful and critical use of the media”.
This global conference brought together 1,500 participants, including ministers, media regulators, representatives of GAFAM, researchers, civil society actors and representatives of the information and communication technologies industry. The aim is to support “a multi-stakeholder debate on the regulation of platforms in the age of disinformation in order to be able to propose a model regulatory framework at the next World Summit on the Information Society and the World Summit on Internet Governance “, we report.
