The Mighty Foot Productions modding team has released a gameplay trailer for Duke Nukem Forever Restoration Project, their own version of the shooter, close to the early concept of 3D Realms. The restored first chapter will be released on December 21st.
Team working on Duke Nukem Forever Restoration Project “the size of a small studio”, which includes enthusiasts (including game industry specialists) from all over the world. Development began following the web flowed away build of the game dated 2001. Enthusiasts set a goal to recreate on its basis the “correct” version of the shooter, which contains much of what 3D Realms showed in the famous trailer for E3 2001 and other promotional materials.
The creators have already restored a significant part of the content that was not included in the release version of Duke Nukem Forever, as well as made many edits and transferred the shooter to DirectX 9. Now they are working on a completely new story, which “will close the gaps between what we know regarding the game and what we don’t”as well as fixing rendering and engine bugs.
The first version, called First Slice Version, will include the first chapter (High Stakes, Lady Killer) with nine levels, a deathmatch mode, and a level editor. It will be available for download at ModDB.
In September, the creators showed a teaser trailer for the mod (YouTube) with music from Duke Nukem 3D composer Lee Jackson, written for the Duke Nukem Forever trailer for E3 2001 before David Arkenstone was confirmed to fill his position. Large-scale modifications with restored content have received many classic games, including Fallout 2 (Restoration Project), Fallout: New Vegas (New Vegas Restoration), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II — The Sith Lords (Restored Content Mod) и Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines (Unofficial Patch), and the authors of Tamriel Rebuilt for more than 20 years recreate the “real” Morrowind in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, embodying an early vision from Bethesda Game Studios.
