Instead of realistic lighting and shadows, Elden Ring with ray tracing turned on paints objects in the effect area with black. McDonald suggests this is due to missing shaders.

At the same time, a couple of observations regarding the implementation of technology in Elden Ring can be made at this stage:

  • open world ray tracingends» at a certain distance from the player;
  • even with ray tracing enabled uses reflections in screen space. McDonald hopes this will change for a full release.

In the files of the recent Elden Ring patch, words McDonald, mentions the combination of ray tracing with “performance mode”. In addition to PC, ray tracing is also announced for consoles.

Elden Ring debuted on February 25 on PC (Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and S. In addition to mentioning ray tracing, 1.07 includes big balance changes and two unknown locations.
