Place at least one (1) mobile pharmacy of the Unified Pharmaceutical Care System in the vicinity of the José María Vargas Hospital, San José parish, Caracas, requests the sociologist Luis Rangel, following living a severe economic experience during his stay -as a patient -, in this important health center inaugurated in 1888, under the name of National Hospital for Men and Women.
He indicated that he was hospitalized for one (1) month in the Neurosurgery area where “…the treatment and attention is of the highest quality and the doctors are the best in the world, for which I thank you very much for your attention and solidarity.”
But, he added “… I want to denounce in a very responsible way the pharmacies that are in front of the hospital…”, because “in this wonderful hospital, where we go to the most humble people, the most needy, those of the town in general, it turns out that… When they ask us for some supplies or medicines that for different reasons are out of stock in the hospital or simply do not arrive, it turns out that we get the most expensive prices in the entire country there”.
He gave examples: «An atropine, which in all pharmacies in the public or private sector is available for only 10.00 bolivars, in these pharmacies it costs four dollars. A Bacitracin cream that is sold everywhere for 4 dollars, these pharmacies sell it for 15 dollars. A simple test tube that costs 5 bolivars everywhere, they sell them for 15”.
He also mentioned that “…Madecasol, which costs 4 dollars in commercial pharmacies, is sold there up to four times more. In addition, they do not give out tax invoices, but rather use a ticket book like a raffle », which is why he calls on the tax authorities to be present in these establishments.
