The “Parliament on Tour” exhibition opened yesterday on Linz’s main square. The interactive show in four containers provides information regarding the basics of democracy – and also provides information regarding the guided tours in the Austrian Parliament on Vienna’s Ringstrasse.

“The exhibition brings the heart of our democracy to people in all federal states,” said National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (VP) at the opening. It should make you want to visit the House on the Ring.”

Provincial Governor Thomas Stelzer, President of the State Parliament Max Hiegelsberger (both VP) and Linz Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) opened the exhibition together with Sobotka. They emphasized the importance of standing up for democracy. “What generations before us and for us fought and created with parliamentarism is a historic achievement that makes it possible to live in peace, freedom, security and prosperity,” said Stelzer. “Without democracy there is no rule of law, no freedom, no peace,” said Hiegelsberger. “Democracy is not something that can be taken for granted, but a great good that requires commitment from all of us,” said Luger.

The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 23. “Parliament on Tour” provides information on how Parliament works and its role in the political system. The structure of the parliament with its two chambers, the National Council and the Federal Council, is explained. A special focus is on the topic of participation. Visitors can interactively explore their options for co-determination on a steering wheel.
