Héma-Québec invites Laval residents to make good resolutions before New Year’s Day. Several mobile blood drives will take place before the holiday season on Île Jésus.
According to Josée Larivée, spokesperson for Héma-Québec, “the holiday season and summer vacations are sometimes more difficult times” to convince donors.
However, the need remains constant. 1000 donations are needed every day in Quebec.
Please note that on December 4, the exclusion criterion concerning Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease will be removed. Donations were prohibited to people who traveled or lived during the 1980s and 1990s in certain countries, notably France and the United Kingdom. This ban was intended to prevent the transmission of “mad cow disease”.
This news will also lead to a relaxation of the eligibility criteria for people with type 1 diabetes excluded due to the use of bovine insulin.
Collections before the holidays
The mobile collection will stop in Sainte-Dorothée on Thursday, December 14 at the Sainte-Dorothée Community Center (625, rue Sylvie), from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Héma-Québec wants to convince 50 people.
The next day, December 15, the Knights of Columbus of the Fabre Council is organizing a collection which will take place in Saint-François, at the Saint-Noël Chabanel Church (8560, rue de l’Église), from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is also looking for 50 people.
In Pont-Viau, it will be possible to roll up your sleeves at the Saint-Louis-de-Montfort Community Center (25, rue Louis) on December 19.
On December 20, Sainte-Rose residents are expected at the Le Sorbier Community Center (140, rue Nadon), from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
150 people per day are needed for a collection at the Cosmodôme (2150, avenue du Cosmodôme), on December 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Héma-Québec recommends making an appointment online or by telephone before going to collection.
It is always possible to check eligibility before donating through Donor Customer Service.
