Mo successfully underwent the second surgery and learned to move his limbs again
AhMo, the dancer from the boy band MIRROR, successfully underwent the second stage of surgery, which enabled him to regain the ability to move his limbs.

Last July, during a concert, a major accident occurred when a giant screen fell, striking dancer Li Qiyan (Ah Mo). He has been receiving treatment in a hospital, and his father, Pastor Li Shenglin, has been sharing updates on his progress through prayer letters. On the 6th, he released his 102nd prayer letter.

Ah Mo underwent a revolutionary surgery last week, allowing him to slightly move his hands and feet. In his prayer letter this week, Li Shenglin explained that Ah Mo had undergone the second phase of the innovative surgery. Thankfully, the wounds initially showed no signs of infection or side effects, and there was a swift and clear response. Currently, Mo adheres to a planned rehabilitation exercise program, described as a “marathon track.” Li Shenglin referred to his son as “learning to be human once more,” comparing him to a newborn baby who learns to control hands and feet for each movement.

Li Shenglin elaborated that brain waves stimulate muscle nerves, similar to learning to reconstruct each frame in a slow-motion video, allowing the nerve lines to adjust signals for accurate and normal movements. Over the past two years, Ah Mo was unable to accomplish this, but the two surgeries provided him with an opportunity to relearn being human. Li Shenglin shared his emotional journey as a parent, describing the heartache he felt seeing the new and old surgical scars on Ah Mo’s entire spine over the past two years. He expressed immense excitement and emotions upon Ah Mo undergoing the second surgery last week, exclaiming, “Finally, I have waited for this day!” His eyes welled up with tears, as he hoped Ah Mo would maintain perseverance and relearn every step like a baby.

The prayer letter excerpts Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

1) 【Explanation of the Scripture】

During a time when the Israelites were in captivity, oppressed by Babylon, and forced into slavery, they were deprived of a place to worship due to the destruction of the temple. They felt abandoned by God. However, God’s plan involved allowing the Israelites to experience their dependence on Him. God never abandoned them, even following their backsliding. The true sense of security lies in embracing God’s comfort and power.

2) Our Experience

It has been 102 weeks. Many were pessimistic and even hopeless regarding Mo’s condition. They doubted and disbelieved in the God we believed in. As the scripture states, God will cause those who do not believe in Him to be horrified and amazed when they witness His actions. The Creator has truly demonstrated His power in Mo. When “everything was ready”, He gave the east wind! He elicited a swift and clear response to the two stages of surgery.

(I) Introduction (Mo)

1)[Two-stage surgery completed]

Thank God, there were no side effects or adverse reactions following the two-stage surgery. We are now following the planned rehabilitation exercise program, embarking on this “marathon track.” We hope that through the grace of the Lord, we can complete this rehabilitation journey and witness the miracle of medicine.

2)[“Relearning to be a good person”: Reconstructing slow motion frame by frame]

Brain waves stimulate muscle nerves, just like learning to reconstruct each frame in a slow-motion video, enabling the nerves to adjust signals for accurate and normal movements. Mo was unable to perform such movements for the past two years. Now, he is “learning to be human once more,” similar to a newborn baby, relearning how to control his hands and feet for each movement.

3) 【Prayer of Thanksgiving】

a) The wound following the two-stage surgery was initially free of infection.

b) The opportunity to begin learning the daily movements, which I have lost for almost two years (starting with the large muscles), has brought indescribable joy. I am grateful for my family, medical staff, church, and all caring individuals who have been by my side for the past 102 weeks. Most importantly, God has always been present, providing me with encouragement and courage.

c) Please continue to pray for Mo to persevere and learn every step like a baby once more.

(II) Mo’s parents

1)[It was heartbreaking to see that the entire spine was covered with surgical scars]

As parents, our hearts are filled with sorrow upon seeing the scars on Mo’s spine from the new and old surgeries over the past two years. We understand how he gritted his teeth and bravely overcame countless difficulties during the 102 weeks of rehabilitation. As parents, how might we not face such a challenging time with our beloved child and stand by him through it?

“If we had not seen the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, we would have lost heart and given up” (Psalm 27:13-14).

2)[Sudden excitement during surgery]

While Mo was undergoing his second surgery, a wave of indescribable excitement and emotion surged through our hearts, as if we were saying to ourselves, “We have finally waited for this day.” At that moment, we realized our eyes were filled with tears.

As Mo’s treatment progressed, we deeply felt God’s unconditional love and power of salvation. We are even more grateful to God that “102 weeks had indeed witnessed Mo’s body regaining vitality.”

Ah Mo’s Recovery Journey: A Story of Resilience and Hope

The past year has been filled with hope and hardship for Ah Mo, a member of the popular Hong Kong boy band MIRROR, who suffered a serious injury during a concert last July. After a giant screen fell, injuring his dancer, Li Qiyan, he has been diligently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation with unwavering support from his family, friends, and fans. Pastor Li Shenglin, Ah Mo’s father, has been meticulously documenting his son’s progress through prayer letters, offering a glimpse into Ah Mo’s journey of resilience and restoration.

A Long and Winding Road to Recovery

In his latest prayer letter, the 102nd one, Pastor Li shared details of Ah Mo’s recent innovative surgeries and the subsequent progress in his recovery. He described the two stages of surgery as a critical step in helping Ah Mo regain movement in his limbs, noting that the procedures were a success, with no infections or side effects reported.

He emphasized the groundbreaking nature of the surgeries, comparing the process of regaining control over his limbs to “learning to be a human being once more.” This analogy effectively captures the magnitude of the challenge faced by Ah Mo. He is essentially learning to rewire his brain and body, a painstaking but hopeful process.

Using a vivid metaphor, Pastor Li compared Ah Mo’s rehabilitation to “reconstructing slow motion frame by frame.” He explained that brain waves stimulate muscle nerves, a process that is akin to meticulously adjusting each frame in a slow-motion video until the signals received by the nerves align perfectly. He expressed his joy witnessing the progress, acknowledging the tireless efforts of the medical team and the unwavering support from Ah Mo’s family, friends and the community.

A Father’s Heartfelt Reflections

In his prayer letter, Pastor Li also shared his personal reflections as a father, revealing the depth of his love and unwavering support for Ah Mo. The sight of the surgical scars on Ah Mo’s spine, a testament to the arduous journey, filled him with both heartbreak and hope. Despite the challenges, he remained dedicated to his son’s recovery, drawing strength from faith and the unwavering support of his community.

“If we had not seen the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living, we would have lost heart and given up” (Psalm 27:13-14). These words from Psalm 27 resonate with Pastor Li’s experience, encapsulating his unwavering faith and hope as he navigates this challenging period.

Looking Ahead: A Journey of Hope

The prayer letter concludes with a heartwarming note of gratitude and a prayer for Ah Mo’s continued progress. Pastor Li expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the community. He encouraged continued prayers for Ah Mo’s strength and resilience as he continues his journey of learning to move his limbs once more. He also highlighted the importance of perseverance, emphasizing that Ah Mo’s recovery is a marathon, not a sprint, requiring patience, faith, and unwavering support.

Despite the challenges, Ah Mo’s story is one of hope and resilience. He serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating the power of perseverance, the strength of faith, and the transformative power of love and support. His journey is a testament to the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity and find strength in the face of uncertainty.
