MLS: Atlanta is no longer in the picture

The New England Revolution ended Atlanta United’s slim playoff hopes by beating them 2-1 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.

The representatives of Georgia absolutely needed a victory to keep their chances. Striker Gustavo Bou, however, imposed a heartbreaking setback on them by breaking the tie 1-1 in the 85th minute.

The Revolution had taken the lead in the first half when Giacomo Vrioni sunk in his penalty shot. It took about fifty minutes before seeing Atlanta respond, but not in any way.

Josef Martinez leveled the score by scoring one of the most beautiful goals of the year in Major League Soccer (MLS). Well fueled by the center of Brooks Lennon, the Venezuelan made a return kick of great power. In front of the net, Djordje Petrovic could only watch the ball enter the cage.

Ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference, the Revs are also out of the playoff picture.
