BALTIMORE — Cade Povich pitched eight innings and struck out 10 as the Baltimore Orioles topped the Chicago White Sox for the second straight game, this time 9-0.
The miserable White Sox suffered their 12th consecutive loss, and their 109th in 140 games this season.
They become the only team since 1900 to have three streaks of at least 12 losses, according to data compiled by SportradarOnly the Louisville Colonels and the Cleveland Spiders did so, in 1889 and 1899;
It was the 16th time this season that Chicago had been shut out. The team is just 11 losses away from matching the 1962 New York Mets’ mark of mediocrity.
White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore was ejected from a game for the first time since taking over.
With his pitchers already allowing nine walks in six innings, Sizemore didn’t appreciate a strike called by home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt on his batter Andrew Benintendi.
Benintendi was eventually struck out and was also ejected from the game when he spoke his mind to Wendelstedt.
Baltimore won the first game of this series by a score of 13-3 on Monday afternoon.
White Sox starting pitcher Nick Nastrini (0-7) has yet to win a game this season and did nothing to turn the tide, allowing seven runs on four hits and six walks in 1 2-thirds innings of work.
