‘Apkkoojeong’, which was in the spotlight as Ma Dong-seok’s new film until its release, disappeared from the top of the box office without rumor.
The comedy film ‘Apkkoojeong’, in which Ma Dong-seok was in charge of planning and starring, and popular actors Jeong Kyung-ho and Oh Na-ra, was virtually unsuccessful at the box office. Even if it wasn’t until the previous film ‘Criminal City 2’ (accumulated audience of regarding 12.69 million), which achieved 10 million myths, it was pushed out of the line of regarding 560,000 (according to the Youngjin Committee on the 15th), far short of the break-even point of 1.9 million.
The movie, released on the 30th of last month, is a human comedy depicting the stories of people who entered the beauty business. New films such as ‘The Owl’ and ‘Avatar: Road of Water’ were pushed out of the top 5 by the religious film ‘Birth’ as well.
The number of daily visitors is 20,000.
The audience reaction is more grim. CJ CGV’s ‘Golden Egg’ index, which is the actual audience rating, recorded 77%, the lowest among the films currently being screened. It received 6.3 (10 out of 10) and 2.1 (5 out of 5), respectively, on Naver movie ratings and Watcha Pedia, a platform specializing in ratings. After the portal, it fell to 5.1 (out of 10).
Ma Dong-seok, who is active in two axes, the pleasure of nuclear fists and marbley with comedy. However, in the case of ‘Apkkoojeong’, the contradiction of the character itself, the loose storyline, and the overly trite comical elements were interpreted as obstacles to box office success. The public’s expectations for Ma Dong-seok, which has become a brand in itself, seem to be filled with disappointment this time around.
Unfortunately, leaving behind the glory of ‘Crime City’, ‘Apkujeong’ is expected to leave in disgrace following failing to recover production costs.
Meanwhile, Ma Dong-seok finished filming ‘Sin City 3’ and is currently in the midst of filming ‘Sin City 4’.
