Mixed results for the Urban Empire festival in Limoges

The Urban Empire festival ended last night, Sunday August 28, in Limoges. After four days of festivities, the results are mixed according to the organizers. Between last minute reservations and cancellations, the effects of the Covid are still being felt.

On stage this Sunday, August 28, three French artists with committed texts. Grand Corps Malade, Zaz and Aldebert came to close the four days of Urban Empire festivities.

On the public side, the gauge is still far from full, but the atmosphere is there, “we are really satisfied overall. The festival took place in good conditions, the public was there, even if we were not full during the 4 days. It also shows that it is a project that interests Limougeauds and even beyond“, expresses Asse Seck, director of the Urban Empire festival.

After two years of health crisis, Urban Empire is struggling to find its audience. “This is a phenomenon encountered by all festivals“, adds Asse Seck.

For good reason, habits have changed with the health crisis. Difficult to project, schedule evenings, so last minute reservations explode.

This is a point that can be stressful, because there is a financial part that is important when organizing this kind of festival. From now on, it is difficult to project ourselves, to anticipate the number of visitors.

Before adding, “But we must accept the change and the way of buying and consuming of the current public“. A change of habit that jeopardizes the sustainability of these festivals.

Another black spot this year, the cancellation of THE headliner of the festival: the singer Roméo Elvis. In a press release, the organizers justified: “lhe live performance sector is struggling to recover from the crisis linked to the global pandemic, we must, for economic reasons, make the difficult decision to reduce the artistic plateau of 08/25. We therefore regret having to cancel the visit of the artist Roméo Elvis, whom we will reschedule in 2023″.

Urban Empire should therefore ignite Limoges once more in 2023.
