Speaking at the TIF press conference and responding to the measures promoted by the Ministry of Education to ban the use of mobile phones in schools, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that he will not hesitate to take even stricter measures by placing special “lockers” in school classrooms.
“I will stick to the cell phone because scientists tell us that the cell phone especially at school creates a distraction and parents know it. There will be difficulties and reactions in the implementation of the measure, but we will persist. We want cell phones in bags. We take the first step. Kyriakos Mitsotakis continued, adding that there is a need for a European reaction to the addiction displayed by teenagers on the internet and the negative way social networks influence.
“Our children and teenagers are at risk of outright addiction to social media platforms and it’s a mental health problem that needs to be addressed. The EU must deal with it. at its root. And I want to play a leading role in it. For a European regulation that will concern the algorithms of these platforms to deal with the dependence that the companies themselves cause to make more money. They cannot make money off the backs of our children and teenagers in a huge mental health experiment that is creating a huge problem for our children.
