We had no illusions regarding whether and to what extent governments serve the interests of capital and oligarchs (and) in Greece. From this point, however, to that at which they shamelessly and openly become their servants, there is doubtless a distance. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, however, did not hesitate to go through it, as he called the president of UEFA (the European football federation) in order to… beg him to send “elite referees” to the playoff games of the Greek league!
Thus, the prime minister of the country – who recently declared in a television interview that he is an Olympian – became actively involved and took a position in the ongoing tug-of-war between the owners of the major PAEs. Which, of course, is not only or mainly related to football and the competition between them there, but to the open accounts they have on many fronts. As with their attempt to divide Greece into “villages”, each of which will maintain and finance its own private army, which will sometimes not hesitate to terrorize and murder, as happened in the case of Alkis Kampanos in Thessaloniki.
Mitsotakis decided to become a referee in the dirty and rigged derby between the oligarchs, proving the deep entanglement and rot of the system, political and business, in all its glory. As for the thousands who recently, in the wake of the crime in Tempe, cursed the prime minister and the system in dance from the stands, let them consider that they themselves often turn into “sheep”. If they want to get really dangerous, they will do it on the street, in their workplaces, in their neighborhoods and in their schools.
