Kyriakos Mitsotakis, following the meeting that his counterpart, Justin Trudeau, had in Canada, they watched together the parade of clubs of the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal for the national holiday of March 25.
After the completion of the parade, in which people of all ages from expatriate associations from dozens of regions of Greece took part, the Prime Minister made the following statement:
“It is truly a great honor and a great pleasure to represent our country today, here in Montreal, in this truly impressive parade on the occasion of the anniversary of the National Independence of March 25th.
Here in Canada the heart of Hellenism really beats very strongly and the message of March 25th resonates alive and relevant throughout the world and here in Canada. Our struggle for national independence in difficult times is always historically relevant.
And of course, this year our presence in the diaspora has a special value, because for the first time we are realizing the decades-old vision of Greek diasporas being able to vote by mail from their permanent place of residence.
So once more a big “thank you” to the Canadian Prime Minister, a big “thank you” to those who organized this truly amazing parade, which proves that Hellenism here in Canada is alive and kicking.
Thank you, Justin, for giving me the opportunity to participate in this amazing parade, on this very important day. I mightn’t imagine a better place to spend Greek Independence Day than with you and my fellow Greek Canadians here in Montreal.”
“Greek Canadians are an incredibly dynamic community, they’ve contributed a lot to Canada, but they’re also very proud of their Greek roots and it’s great that we’re together today,” Justin Trudeau said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and his Canadian counterpart attended together the doxology for the national holiday of March 25 at the Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos.
The two leaders also had the opportunity to visit expatriate shops and chat with their owners and patrons.
