The European Union Summit in Brussels has concluded with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis making statements.
Among other things, Mr. Mitsotakis clarified that there is no agreement between Greece and Ukraine for the protection of the warring country’s airspace, saying that these are not serious matters and that he would not sign anything in secret.
“Greece supports Ukraine’s ability to defend itself without under any circumstances calling into question the operational capability of our armed forces,” he clarified.
“Our support for Ukraine is ongoing and a level of discussion has been launched to strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy. It is imperative to strengthen our strategic autonomy by investing in European defense and it is a new addition to the discussion we are having because for the first time we touch on the issue of financing the common European effort”, he noted referring to the discussions of the Synod.
“The second is that following 5 months we have formed a framework of conclusions regarding what is happening in Gaza. You are calling for a humanitarian pause that leads to a ceasefire but also requires the release of hostages. We must still avoid a widespread humanitarian crisis, he said. The message he said is that the central priority is the protection of civilians. He was also in favor of the creation of two states,” he said.
Responding to a related question, he did not say how much the minimum wage will increase, adding however that it will be over 800 euros, while noting that he is bringing in other benefits with the ultimate goal of the government’s commitment to an average wage of 1,500 euros.
With reference to the tragedy of Tempe, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that the politicization of the tragedy is not a good development, saying that the New Republic has never done something like this. He noted that in the coming days a series of actions taken by the Government to upgrade the railway will be made public. “Justice will do its job for Tempe,” he said
Regarding the image of the polls, he said that the New Democracy never rested on its great poll superiority, noting that the ballot box is empty and that “we will convince the people why they should come to the ballot box, the citizens should vote for their daily life and for the Europe”.
Regarding the European ballot, he said that by the beginning of April, its formation will be completed for the next 14 names remaining following the announcement of the 28 earlier today.
