How will astronauts react to being isolated millions of miles from Earth during their trip to Mars? To find out, NASA is looking for guinea pigs.

Sous observation

Are you interested in spending a year in a flight simulator to the planet Mars? NASA is looking for healthy people aged 30 and 55. Four volunteers will spend 378 days on Mars Dune Alpha, a 158 square meter space that recreates the living conditions of astronauts who will one day land on Mars. The CHAPEA (Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog) program is a series of simulations of Martian missions which will last more or less a year.

Realistic tests

The “Mars Dune Alpha” is a space built by 3D printing which recreates what might well be a base on the planet Mars. The volunteers who will be chosen to carry out the simulation will have to face complex situations, but probable when considering a space trip of such scope. Equipment breakdowns, long communication deadlinesstress factors and living with very limited resources are elements that will be observed by NASA experts.

Pour to apply By April 2, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, in good health, between the ages of 30 and 55, and have a master’s degree in science. The selection process will last more than a year, so the simulation is expected to begin in spring 2025. This will be the second stage of the CHAPEA program. The first began on June 25, 2023 and will end in July.
