The senior citizens’ association condemns the act “in the strongest possible terms”: “It is obviously a carnival joke of the worst kind, which is why the state police department was also called in,” it said in a broadcast on Monday.
Three older people are depicted on the posters in question, with their full names and ages (see below). It is unclear whether the three actually exist or whether the unknown authors came up with the names themselves. In any case, the supposedly missing people are not known to the Senior Citizens’ Association.
Text also suggests a joke
Unknown persons are believed to have hung up the notes in various places in the city on Monday night. Under the photos of the wanted people you can read: “They were last seen on the evening of February 8th, 2024 following a carnival party organized by the Upper Austrian Senior Citizens’ Association in downtown Linz. Since then there has been no trace of them.”
Furthermore, the three are said to have been dressed in “red hats, large glasses and red noses”. “The worst is to be feared,” it says in the missing persons report.
Senior citizens’ association listed as contact
The anger is so great because the fake posters were written in the name of the Seniors’ Association: “Please help the Upper Austrian Seniors’ Association to track down and recapture the seniors who have escaped from them,” it says. Below it is asked for “relevant information” and the email address and telephone number of the senior citizens’ association are listed as contact details.
“We would like to announce that the Senior Citizens’ Association is not the author of this document and has no connection whatsoever,” said press officer Ludwig Seiringer on Monday.
