A man is currently missing after diving into the Sambre in Thuin this Tuesday midday. The search to find him has since been interrupted, the Hainaut-Est rescue zone said early in the evening. Civil protection will resume the search on Wednesday.
The missing man would have dove into the Sambre to rescue dogs that had fallen into the water following a walk. Emergency services, including firefighters and the federal police, deployed to find him. “We notably called on several of our men, including divers, but also the federal police helicopter to try to find any trace of the man who disappeared in the Sambre. In vain,” commented Tuesday evening the Hainaut-Est emergency zone.
The search, which was interrupted, will resume on Wednesday with civil protection. “It is this service which will take over. Concerning the firefighters, the notion of emergency has disappeared with the passage of time. Which also means that there is little chance of finding the missing man alive” , concluded the relief zone.
