14-year-old Benjamin Achimeir disappeared on Friday, triggering an extensive search operation and attacks on several Palestinian villages.
The military says the boy’s body was found following he was killed in a terrorist attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacts strongly and calls the incident a heinous murder.
Achimeir was reported missing early Friday from the Malachi Hashalom Jewish outpost near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
At least one person was killed and dozens injured when Jewish settlers searching for the boy attacked the Palestinian village of al-Mughayyir, 500 meters west of Malachi Hashalom.
The settlers fired guns and set fire to a number of homes and cars in the village, and the residents responded by throwing stones at them. Mayor Amin Abu Alyah says the army then came to support the settlers.
One of the town’s residents says the army ordered the residents to gather outside the village, and that over ten houses and 50 cars were burnt.
At least 462 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the West Bank since the war in Gaza began last October.
700,000 settlers live illegally in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and are protected by the Israeli army.
