A fisherman discovered the dead man on the edge of the reeds between Podersdorf and Illmitz (Neusiedl am See district), a police spokesman confirmed a report from ORF Burgenland. A DNA comparison should now clarify the identity and provide certainty as to whether the body is actually that of the missing 55-year-old Lower Austrian.
The man did not return home from an ice skating trip to Rust on January 15th. Since then, a search operation has been underway, initially using skid boats on the ice and later sonar boats in the water. The search was also carried out using drones and helicopters, but initially only the ice skater’s backpack was found at the end of January.
