The former Miss United States in 2019, Cheslie Kryst, died this Sunday (01.30.2022) by throwing herself from the window of her apartment in Manhattan, according to the New York police, who confirmed her death to various media.
Kryst’s body was found at 7 a.m. in the Orion Building on 42nd Street, a luxurious skyscraper in this area of midtown Manhattan near Times Square where she lived on the 60th floor.
Kryst, who was 30 years old, was currently collaborating on the variety show Extra, whose producers released a statement saying they were devastated and said she was “a much-loved part of the extended Extra family.”
Born in Michigan, she had studied at business school and law school, and before entering the beauty pageant she practiced as a lawyer, as well as founding the fashion blog White Collar Glam.
Kryst had posted on Instagram hours earlier: “May this day bring you rest and peace.”
She was a passionate advocate for criminal justice reform and had worked pro bono for clients serving excessive prison sentences for petty drug offenses.
His relatives, for their part, asked for privacy in these moments of bitterness. “It is with devastation and great sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie,” her family said in a statement. “It was her great light that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, loved, laughed and shone.”
“Cheslie embodied love and service to others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on EXTRA. But most of all, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague, we know your impact will last.”
