Misfortunes roll in: Another Aalborg star is going under the knife

First he had to withdraw from this summer’s Olympics due to an ankle injury, which also spoiled the run-up to the current season.

And now there is more bad news about the strong full-back.

Aalborg Handball announces that Mads Hoxer will be operated on for a mischievous shoulder injury which has bothered him for a long period of time, and he is out of action and training for at least five months.

– We have tried pretty much everything to avoid an operation, but have also had to admit that this season it has only been glimpses of the version of Mads Hoxer we want to see that has been on the field, says Aalborg Handball’s director Jan Larsen to the club’s website.

Hoping for a comeback in the playoffs

Mads Hoxer himself sees the operation as a necessary evil, after his shoulder has caused him major problems for a long period of time.

– It is of course a big disappointment to look forward to a long injury break and rehabilitation, but in my current state I am nowhere near being able to play the way I want to. That’s why I’m also looking forward to getting the operation over with, says the full-back.

Mads Hoxer hopes that he can play a role in the decisive games of the season. In September, he extended his contract with Aalborg Handball until the summer of 2027.

Aalborg Handball already has Niklas Landin out with a knee injury, for which the goalkeeper underwent surgery in September. He was then reported out for up to eight weeks.

Captain René Antonsen is also on the list of injured players. He has problems with a jumper’s knee, which will keep the linebacker out of games and training for at least six weeks.
