Andrey Mironov “I feel sorry for the one who will shoot it” – this is how the master of comedy Ryazanov reacted when he got the already redone script for the film “The Incredible Adventures of Italians in Russia”. Ironically, it was Eldar Alexandrovich who had to shoot a film regarding treasure hunting with Andrei Mironov and foreign stars. Everyone seems to regret it.
In 1970, Ryazanov, together with his colleague Emil Braginsky, brought to Goskino a script application for the comedy Spaghetti in Russian. The idea was in the spirit of the author of “Ivan Vasilyevich …” and “The Diamond Hand”: a group of Italians goes to Yaroslavl in search of treasure, while a Soviet policeman hinders the actions of foreign tourists. First of all, Ryazanov and Braginsky were told that the Italians should not look like crooks in the film. However, Eldar Aleksandrovich refused to change anything.
A couple of years later, work on the future film “The Incredible Adventures of Italians in Russia” nevertheless began. Ryazanov, although skeptical regarding the new vision of the film, nevertheless got to work. Andrey Mironov was invited to the shooting, as well as Italian artists: Ninetto Davoli, Antonia Santilli, Alighiero Noschese, Tano Cimarosa and other stars of foreign cinema. Chases, action, jokes were added to the original script of the tape. In just two months, Ryazanov shot a picture, in the assessment of which many still cannot agree.
Lev King scared all the actors except Andrei Mironov
After the completion of the work, Ryazanov swore never to deal with animals once more (a real lion was shot in the film – ed.), and the Italians were afraid of the Soviet director. After 50 years, you can find a lot of terrible facts from the filming of the film “The Incredible Adventures of Italians in Russia”:
In the movie, in one of the scenes, the plane was supposed to land on the highway. It is difficult to imagine what a disaster the episode might have turned into if the stuntmen were not driving the cars. The pilots who flew the liner also knew their job very well; In the film, they shot the tame lion King, who grew up in the most ordinary apartment and did not know training. During filming, the animal jumped on a man who accidentally entered the set, and a policeman who happened to be nearby had to shoot King. It was then that Ryazanov took his oath regarding animals. By the way, only Andrei Mironov, who openly risked his life, was not afraid of the lion; Foreign actors poorly understood the tasks that Ryazanov set for them, and suffered greatly. It is known that following the “Incredible Adventures …” Antonia Santilli ended her career, and Alighiero Nosquese starred in another film, and in the end completely died of his own free will.
