It turns out that the ending of the comedy western “The Man from the Boulevard des Capuchins” was supposed to be completely different.
At the end of the film, Johnny, along with Black Jack and Diana, rides off into the sunset for a new life. However, as planned by director Alla Surikova, the heroes did not have a happy ending to the story. The dancer Diana was supposed to become a prisoner of the pastor and wither away from melancholy in Santa Carolina.
But the leading actor Andrei Mironov intervened in the script. The star set conditions: either the film ends with a happy ending, or he refuses Surikova’s offer. The actor demanded a happy ending for Johnny Fest that would justify all his misadventures. Therefore, they decided to finally release Diana and allow her to leave with her dear people.
