The German champion ( once more) managed to snatch the equalizer at the end of stoppage time once morest Stuttgart (2-2).
Trailing 2-0 by Stuttgart following an hour of play, Bayer Leverkusen once once more snatched the equalizer in the sixth minute of added time through Robert Andrich, to sign a 46th match this season without defeat early Saturday evening. After a catastrophic start to the second half and two goals conceded in the 47th minute by Chris Führich and in the 57th minute by Deniz Undav, Xabi Alonso’s men reduced the score thanks to Moroccan international Amine Adli (61st).
After attempts were repelled by Adli and Jonas Hofmann in the 65th minute following a sumptuous double save from Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, it was finally Robert Andrich who equalized in the sixth minute of added time. This is the 15th time that the Werkself has scored beyond normal time.
Leverkusen remains unbeaten in 46 matches this season and can still become the first German club to finish a Bundesliga season without defeat, to follow Perugia (30 matches in 1978/79, 2nd at the end of the season), AC Milan ( 34 in 1991/92), Juventus Turin (38 in 2011/12) and Arsenal (38 in 2003/04), the only clubs in the five major European championships (Germany, England, Spain, France and Italy) following 1945 to have achieved such a feat.
Leverkusen can still add two trophies in addition to the championship. Xabi Alonso’s men will play the German Cup final once morest Kaiserslautern on May 25, and face AS Roma on Thursday in the semi-finals first leg of the Europa League.
