The two young children saw their father shot dead in front of them as he tried to defend his home. They managed to hide for many hours before being brought to safety.
A reunion that is something of a miracle. Saturday morning, as the Hamas attacks in Israel began, Lavi and Daria, two young children aged eight and ten, were with their father, Dvir, who lives in Réïm, a kibbutz located near the Gaza Strip. It was around 8:30 a.m. when Reut Karp, the mother of the two children separated from their father, received a terrible message from her daughter.
“Mom, it’s Daria, they killed dad and his partner too. Please help me,” she can read, horrified.
Lavi and Daria manage to hide while the terrorists shoot down the inhabitants of the kibbutz, including Dvir, who himself shot the attackers. “They saw the terrorists, they also saw their dad being killed before their eyes. He tried to protect them and they just shot him,” she told BFMTV.
“We breathe together”
Several hours of terror follow, during which Daria stays on the phone with her mother. “She was afraid to see the bodies, I told her: ‘don’t worry, we breathe together, mom is here and I’m not going anywhere'”, emphasizes Reut.
Finally, a neighbor who survived the attack managed to recover the two children and bring them to safety. On the walls of the house, he finds and photographs a blood-red inscription left by a terrorist: “We don’t kill children.”
This Wednesday, the mother was able to find her two children in an Israeli town. All three are now safe. “It’s a miracle. You know it’s a rare story because so many children have been killed here,” says Reut.
According to a latest provisional report given by the Israeli army, at least 1,200 people died following Hamas terrorist attacks, including 11 French people, and at least 2,700 were injured.
