About 6 years after his disappearance, a woman found her dog, “Pitbull”, about 750 km from home.

And workers at the “Huntington Cabel Wayne” animal shelter said that a couple brought in a “Pitbull” dog recently, after they found him wandering alone in the “East Linn” Lake area of Wayne County in West Virginia.

The dog was scanned for a microchip (which is implanted in dogs as an identification tag), and was identified as Chief and owned by a woman from Atlanta, Georgia, Tara Hillis, according to United Press International.

Hillis told shelter officials that Chief has been missing for 6 years, pointing out that he was about a year and a half old when he wandered away from home and disappeared.

She added to a local TV channel that the dog “managed to escape after jumping from the fence or digging under it.”

Shelter officials said there were “no indications of Chief’s whereabouts over the past six years, or how he got to a distance of 750 kilometers from home,” but stressed that “the dog is friendly and healthy.”

It also turned out that “Chef” was discovered about a week before he came to the shelter, by guards in the US Army Corps of Engineers who manage the lake, but he managed to escape again before the couple found him.

Hillis and Chief are supposed to be reunited on Tuesday.
