In Missouri, we are crying out for a miracle. The body of a nun who died in 2019 and was exhumed following four years shows almost no signs of decomposition.
This is Wilhelmina Lancaster, who died at age 95, founder of the convent of the Benedictine Sisters of Mary, Queen of the Apostles, and buried in Gower, regarding 60 km north of Kansas City.
According to the nuns themselves, the coffin of Sister Wilhelmina was opened to move the remains of the body to the monastery chapel. It was expected that bones would be found, but an intact body turned up instead. He had not been embalmed before and the nun had been buried in a simple wooden coffin.
“Incorruptibility”
The Diocese of Kansan City-St. Joseph also investigates the case. The hypothesis of a case of incorruptibility is being evaluated, which according to Catholic tradition indicates divine intervention that stops or slows down decay as a sign of holiness.
In the meantime, a real pilgrimage to the convent has begun, also from Canada and Mexico. The nun’s body was initially displayed unprotected and worshipers might touch it with their hands. It has now been placed in a transparent display case, so as not to be damaged by the influx of thousands of pilgrims.
