It was on November 26, at precisely 1:12 p.m., that her little heart, which had worked very hard to “miraculously” keep her alive until she was 8 years old, stopped.

“She had time to spend a lot of time with her brothers, spend time with her family. Her brothers were able to say nice things to her while crying and hugging her. We also managed to take it upon ourselves,” relates her father, Pierre Nadeau, with emotion.

TALK pays tribute to him

His last seconds of life were carried by the song Run Away To Mars by Canadian artist TALK, who even recorded the piece in a video, just for her.

“This song is regarding a person who suffers a lot in our world and who seeks to escape from all his difficulties […] who wants to find a place where there is no more suffering,” describes his mother, Laurie Suzor-Pleau.

Even though Olivia didn’t speak, Ms. Suzor-Pleau says she loved the song. She hummed it in the hospital and asked for it once more, she said. “For us, this song is Olivia’s voice,” she adds.

It is also thanks to the actress Ingrid Falaise, a family friend, who shared a video of Olivia on social networks, that TALK decided to pay tribute to her. “Now, TALK has a big place in my heart,” says the mother.

More miracles

Hospitalized for almost a month due to a very low heart rate, Olivia, true to herself, put her family through a roller coaster of emotions, once more and once more defying medical prognoses.

A great admirer of princesses from the Disney universe, Olivia, 8 years old, proudly wore her Minnie costume when she was admitted to CHUL on October 29. Despite her abnormally low heart rate, Olivia always showed her biggest smile, says her mother, Laurie Suzor-Pleau. Photo provided by Olivia’s family

A few days following her admission, she had to be resuscitated for several minutes. The doctors had also prepared the parents for the worst. But the little “larger than life” had not yet said her last word…

Risky operation

However, time was running out for Olivia, who following this episode had to undergo heart surgery quickly. An “extremely risky” surgical procedure for his tired little heart, but which had become inevitable.

“The cardiologists said it was like they were aiming at a moving target. They didn’t really know what they had to repair by operating because there were so many things,” says his dad.

The specialists and medical staff did everything to keep Olivia alive, ready for this important operation, which ultimately never took place, just like her “Childhood Dream”, which was to go see the princesses at Disney .

“She won’t have had time and it’s very difficult for us,” says Mr. Nadeau.

Syndrome

Olivia’s parents had recently discovered that she suffered from Kat 6B syndrome, causing her to have developmental delays and an inability to eat. She was fed exclusively by tube feeding. She also suffered from severe mitral regurgitation, with one of the valves in her heart leaking.

In 2019, Le Journal also wrote a report on little Olivia, who was then 4 years old, when like a true miracle, she impressed doctors and defied medical prognoses. Simon Clark/QMI Agency

Before she was a year old, she had already undergone four open heart surgeries. Each time, his parents prepared for the worst. But each time, she defied medicine and continued to display her broad smile.

Little Olivia also became the first in Quebec to receive the “Mélody” valve, made of an ox chinstrap.

At CHUL, Olivia was nicknamed “Oliviesque”.
