THE increase in the highest retail price (HET) of Minyakita to IDR 15,700 will affect the price of food that uses cooking oil as a raw material.
“After rice and sugar, cooking oil is a basic necessity not only for households, but also for other food industries, both small and medium,” said agricultural observer, Syaiful Bahari, when contacted on Sunday (21/7).
Thus, Syaiful emphasized that it is certain that the cost of staple foods will also be pushed up and will certainly increase the burden of food inflation.
Another thing he conveyed was that Indonesia is the largest CPO producer in the world. Thus, Syaiful assessed that people’s basic necessities whose raw materials come from CPO should be cheaper than countries that do not have CPO.
“Although the government is boosting CPO for biodiesel, this should not disrupt the raw material for cooking oil,” he added.
With the increase in Minyakkita’s HET, Syaiful again said that the government had failed to manage the production trade system for which the raw materials are abundant domestically.
“Too many regulations in the sector are made but not connected to the downstream sector, including to consumers of cooking oil,” he said. (Z-2)
