MINUSMA suspended by Mali: thousands of UN soldiers blocked

Bamako still holds Ivorian soldiers arrested on July 10 and considers them mercenaries. Abidjan denies, saying that they are soldiers in support of the United Nations mission. The Malian government has announced the suspension of all military rotations of MINUSMA in the country, the United Nations mission deployed in Mali.

In Niger, the French ministers of the armies and foreign affairs arrived on the spot on Thursday. They will meet with President Bazoum on the reorganization of Operation Barkhane, now focused on the country.

They have been omnipresent in Ivorian political history for several decades, but their official meetings are rare. Alassane Ouattara, Henri Konan Bédié and Laurent Gbagbo met once more 10 years later with the aim of advancing reconciliation following the political crises of 2010-2011, but also to prepare for the next elections.
