MINUSCA strengthens the capacity of the Internal Security Forces in Judicial Police –

BANGUI, Central African Republic, August 27, 2024 /African Media Agency (AMA)/- The MINUSCA police (UNPOL) organized, from August 19 to 23, 2024, a five-day training for 60 police officers and gendarmes, including 19 female personnel. This training aimed to equip these beneficiaries in terms of Judicial Police Officer. At the end of the training, the 60 recipients will master investigation and hearing techniques, the drafting of reports, the concepts of General Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Special Criminal Law.

In order to enable better involvement of national stakeholders and to promote good ownership of the training program, two national trainers were part of the team of trainers, supported by two MINUSCA trainers.

At the end of the training, Lise Christelle Ngaya Bouwa, gendarme of 1e class in service in the research and investigation section of the Technical and Scientific Police unit, testifies: “We are from the last class of police and gendarmerie students. During this training, we demonstrated remarkable commitment and diligence. Our enthusiasm for learning and applying the new knowledge acquired in judicial police is evidence of our dedication to improving security conditions and well-being in the city.”

For Betorngaye Lamane, a peacekeeper from the Central Office for the Suppression of Banditry, “this MINUSCA initiative for continuing training, especially in the field of technical and scientific police, is very significant for us because we have been equipped with advanced skills to be able to conduct our investigations with great serenity and success. This will allow us to have brilliant results that we will make available to the justice system of our country, in order to enable it to better deliver justice and strengthen the population’s confidence in its judicial system, which is a very important link for the stability of my country,” he said.

The various socio-political crises that the Central African Republic has experienced since 2013 have had negative consequences on the security situation due to the numerous clashes between rival armed groups. The impunity generated by this situation has considerably hampered the redeployment of the administration. In this worrying context, where the Internal Security Forces, already poorly equipped, are less present in the prefectures, the repression of offences remains the major challenge for the administration and MINUSCA.
