The Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, together with the Undersecretary of Public Health, Andrea Albagli, and the Undersecretary of Healthcare Networks, Osvaldo Salgado, presented this Wednesday the 2024 Winter Campaign, a strategy that, like every year, the Ministry of Health implemented for the operation of the healthcare network.

On the occasion, Minister Aguilera stressed that “we continue as the Ministry of Health in this preparation for winter. Today we had the possibility of having a meeting with the representatives of the External Advisory Council who participate in the campaign, which has been strengthened.” Along the same lines, the authority reiterated the preparation measures that have been progressively implemented for the winter season: “Although we are in autumn, we have already started the influenza vaccination campaign; In addition, we began with the historic milestone of the application of Nirsevimab, the monoclonal antibody for respiratory syncytial virus that is intended for all newborns and infants up to 6 months; we continue with vaccination for Covid-19; and we continue to prepare from the point of view of epidemiological and virological surveillance and the healthcare network to face this winter.”

For his part, Undersecretary Salgado announced the reinforcement of the IRA and ERA rooms, specific guidelines for vulnerable groups resulting from natural disasters; in addition to adding mental health aspects for the first time and incorporating the possibility of predicting scenarios through the engineering contribution of the University of Chile with artificial intelligence.

“The objective of the campaign, as always, is to reduce the mortality and morbidity of the population as a result of winter respiratory diseases,” said Dr. Salgado, who also detailed the seven strategic lines of the campaign.

The authorities took advantage of the occasion to call for the general population to keep their vaccination up to date in order to reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill, both for Covid-19 and influenza, in addition to parents of newborns and Infants up to 6 months immunize their children with Nirsevimab, the RSV medication.
