The film music of Minos Matsa, who received the National Music Award for the soundtracks of the films “Eduart” (2006) and “Slaves in their chains” (2008), has been presented at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Alice Tully Hall, at Lincoln Center, among great creators such as Rota, Morricone and Piazzolla. In the March 7th concert at Megaro, the beloved composer unravels the musical mythos that connects all the female figures in his works “with a story”.
“With a story that I wanted to tell with my music since I was little. With a story for every woman that emerges through the works of cinema and theater. The listener can travel, dream and ultimately make his own story. After all, this is the magic of music: it spreads its wings and takes on a life of its own, escaping from the images that gave birth to it. Euthychia ‒the emancipated woman-poet of our folk song, Eleni ‒the companion and muse of Kazantzakis, Catherine the Great ‒the emblematic female figure in power, Petra Von Kant ‒the demonic and enigmatic figure of Fassbinder, are some of the portraits of women who I’ve been lucky enough to draw music in recent years,” notes the composer.
The orchestrations are signed by Yiannis Gikas, the directing by Stavros Tsakiris, the lighting design by Christina Thanasoulas and the videos by Andreas Kourelas. Soloists Takis Vassiliou (traditional percussion), Christos Zerbinos (accordion), Giorgos Matsikas (mandolin, lute), Paris Perisynakis (Cretan lyre) are participating.
