Minnesota Timberwolves strengthen with Austin Rivers

The Minnesota Timberwolves are beefing up their backcourt. Austin Rivers will join the franchise from the far north.

This is reported by Adrian Wojnarowski ESPN. According to his advisors, the guard will sign a contract for a year, the conditions are not yet known at this time. It will probably be a deal for the minimum though.

Rivers played 67 games for the Denver Nuggets last season, succeeding new Wolves boss Tim Connelly, who previously ran the Mile High City for many years.

The Wolves are thus further padding their backcourt following they had to let starter Patrick Beverley go in the course of the trade for Rudy Gobert. In addition to Rivers and Gobert, the Wolves had previously signed Kyle Anderson to free agency for two years and $18 million.

It is now the seventh NBA team for Rivers, having previously played for the New Orleans Pelicans, LA Clippers, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and the Nuggets. In the preseason, the combo guard averaged 6.0 points and 1.7 rebounds in 22 minutes at 41.7 percent FG and 34.2 percent from the three-point line.
