Minnesota State Women’s Golf Team Takes Second Place at Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational

WARRENSBURG, MO. — The Minnesota State women’s golf team used a 13-shot improvement to card a second-place finish at the Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Central Missouri at the Mules National Golf Club. The Mavericks finished the two-day event with a 310-297—607.

Central Missouri won the event with a 293-289—582. The Mules National Golf Club is a par-70 track that covers 5,682 yards. For the two-day event, the average individual score on the course was 82.49. The Jennies’ Hayley Jones won the event with a 72-69—141.

“Really proud of how came back from yesterday,” said Director of Golf Alex Schmitz. “We finished really strong on the back nine. It was great to finish our fall season this way at a very strong regional event.”

Sophomore Sammy Youngquist finished tied for fourth with a 74-72—146, thanks in part to 13 pars and a pair of birdies. For her efforts, Youngquist was named to the All-Tournament team. Senior Kelly Winter finished 12th with 73-78—151 while fellow senior Anna Cihak finished 20th behind an 80-74—154. Rounding out the Mavericks contributing to the team score was sophomore Ava Olson who finished tied for 33rd with an 83-75—158.

Individually, freshmen Claire Schweim and Victoria Woytassek finished tied for 53rd and tied for 77th, respectively. Schweim carded an 83-76—162 while Woytassek shot an 81-87—168.

Minnesota State finished second in the event in par four scoring with a 4.23. Additionally, the Mavericks were second in the event in pars with 96. Youngquist finished tied for first in par four scoring with a 3.94.

The Midwest Intercollegiate Invitational concluded the fall portion of Minnesota State’s schedule.  The Mavericks played in seven events this fall, finishing first in three and second in four.
