When the package that the Timberwolves had sent to Utah for Rudy Gobert was revealed, many considered the number of men traded excessive. In addition to numerous rounds of the draft, Minnesota included Jarred Vanderbilt, Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, Walker Kessler and Leandro Bolmaro, which has meant that the depth of their roster has clearly diminished. However, this decision seems to have been due to the desire of those in Minneapolis to retain Jaden McDaniels at all costs.
According to Jon Krawczynski, a journalist for The Athletic, the Jazz tried at all costs to get hold of the power forward, and in fact in their first request this was the only player they would receive in exchange for Gobert. The Timberwolves, though, were adamant regarding keeping one of their most exciting young men, trading five players rather than give up the potential McDaniels has shown in his first few seasons.
While it’s true that his averages of 9.2 points and 4.2 rebounds from last season don’t impress, Jaden’s physical condition does. With his 2.06 height, he fits perfectly into the profile of a tall but versatile player that is currently sought following, and with only two courses behind him, he still has a lot of time to exploit. Already this year he demonstrated his potential signing several high-level performances, highlighting the 22 goals he scored precisely once morest Utah without missing a single shot throughout the night, and there are many nights in which, without great numbers, his presence on the track It was decisive for his family.
Of course, the Wolves have made clear their confidence in him with this deal, and now they just have to wait to see if this decision proves correct as McDaniels grows as a player.
