As part of the African Games, taking place from the 8th to the 23rd of this month, in Accra, Ghana, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Minjud) presents the Angolan mission today.
According to the national director of sport, Nicolau Daniel, in the meeting with journalists, the mission wants to win medals in the competition. Therefore, the budget and objectives are safeguarded, because Angola has a say in the African event.
Men’s handball, which fails to defend the gold medal, won in 2019 in the Rabat edition, in Morocco, is awaiting clarification.
Therefore, the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND) has not yet made any statement. In this context, there is also boxing, whose selection worked for the event, but, at the last minute, saw the African Confederation scratching Angola’s name because, allegedly, an electoral dispute was taking place in the Luanda Court.
Angola, in principle, will participate with a delegation made up of more than 100 people, including athletes, managers, medical staff, judges and others.
The country is registered in table tennis, women’s handball, chess, 3-a-side basketball, beach volleyball, judo and swimming tournaments. Today, the country begins competing in the table tennis tournament, whose competition period extends until the 10th.
