The luxury minivan GAC M8 debuted in China a year and a half ago, replacing the single-volume GAC GN8. Now a generation change has occurred on the Russian market, although “gray” deliveries of the new model have been going on since the summer. Official dealers of the GAC brand should have new minivans by the end of February, but prices have already been published.
The GAC M8 is noticeably larger than its predecessor: the length has increased by 146 mm (to 5212 mm), and the wheelbase has increased by 80 mm (to 3070 mm). Although the minivan only added 9 mm in width (to 1893 mm), and the height remained the same (1823 mm). The chassis design has not changed fundamentally: McPherson strut at the front, multi-link at the rear and conventional springs all around. The wheels have a non-alternative diameter of 18 inches.
In China, there are hybrid versions with varying degrees of electrification, but only a gasoline minivan with a 2.0 turbo engine (231 hp, 400 Nm), a classic eight-speed Aisin automatic transmission and front-wheel drive has reached us. The curb weight of the car is 2150 kg, and acceleration to “hundreds” takes 9.8 seconds.
The seven-seater cabin boasts separate “captain’s” chairs on the second row with massage, heating, ventilation and electrical adjustments. In addition, there are retractable ottoman footrests. All these functions are controlled by touch panels on the armrests, and controls for the sliding doors and sunroof are located on the ceiling. On the third row there is a simple sofa.
In Russia, the GAC M8 minivan will be offered in four trim levels: GL (5.5 million rubles), GT (6 million rubles), GX (6.3 million rubles) and GX Premium (6.5 million rubles). The differences between them have not yet been revealed. Buyers have a choice of five exterior colors and three interior options: light, dark and combined dark and burgundy (only for GX and GX Premium versions).
