Ministry of Unification “Reunion of separated families, a matter of heaven… regular review”

While President Yun Seok-yeol proposed a ‘bold initiative’ for denuclearization to North Korea in his Liberation Day congratulatory address, the Ministry of Unification said that it was constantly reviewing the issue of family reunions.

An official of the Ministry of Unification met with reporters today (16th) and asked if they were considering reunions of separated families, “The government’s basic position is that ‘the separated families must make urgent progress on the issues of humanity and morality’ It is clear,” he replied.

This official, however, explained that “specific proposals are currently under review” and that “reunion proposals for resolving the separated family issue are being reviewed on a regular basis.”

The official added that in the future, depending on inter-Korean relations, the specific details of the reunion of separated families may become a reality.

Regarding the pre-rehearsal of ‘Eulji Freedom Shield’, a joint South Korea-US joint exercise from today, he said, “The South Korea-US joint exercise is an annual, defensive exercise. ‘ We look forward to responding to the proposal,” he said.
