THE MINISTRY of Transportation (Kemenhub) together with transportation operators have prepared a number of transportation facilities and infrastructure in facing the 2024 Eid transport. These facilities and infrastructure are in the form of 30,780 buses and 113 terminals, 213 ships, 8 routes, 16 ports and 50 piers, 420 planes, 51 domestic airports and 16 international airports, 26 passenger ships, 107 pioneer ships, 1,208 private ships, 264 ports, as well as 615 intercity trains/day, and 192 stations.

“The facilities and infrastructure are prepared to serve 71.7% or 193.6 million of the Indonesian population who wish to return home. This is in accordance with a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency,” said Director General of Sea Transportation Antoni Arif Priadi who represented the Minister of Transportation in the Public Discussion on Readiness Ahead of the 2024 Eid homecoming, in Jakarta, Thursday (28/3).

Antoni said that the strong synergy between ministries/institutions, the availability of built infrastructure, and the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, meant that the implementation of the 2024 Eid Transport would bring joy to the community, like the slogan Cheerful Homecoming Full of Meaning. “This year, the government, through the theme Homecoming Cheerful, Full of Meaning, is trying to provide joy by organizing a safe, smooth and secure homecoming flow so that it gives deep meaning to the entire community,” said Antoni.

In this Eid transportation, the Ministry of Transportation has taken preparatory steps, including coordinating with relevant ministries/institutions and stakeholders in preparing plans for preparing infrastructure, testing the operational feasibility of facilities, preparing technical and operational policies, conducting policy socialization, as well as carrying out monitoring and establishing command posts. together. He hopes that the efforts that have been prepared will be supported by the community by going home earlier using public transportation so that the density at the peak of the homecoming flow can be reduced.

“To avoid peak traffic congestion on April 5-8 2024, I urge the public to travel home early before that time. Use public transportation or take advantage of the free homecoming program provided by the Ministry of Transportation or other agencies. Avoid using motorbikes because they are very dangerous ,” he concluded.
