The Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, and the Director General of the National Police, General William René Salamanca Ramírez, offered an assessment of the demonstrations that took place today, April 21, in Colombia, as well as the device security deployed to ensure the safety of protesters.

«The citizens who decided to march today in Colombia did so in total peace and tranquility. We have received reports from all the Unified Command Posts (PMU) in every corner of Colombia, from the national PMU that we carry out here at the Directorate of the National Police of Colombia,” stated the Minister of the Interior.

«We recognize the good tone of the marches, as well as the work of the local authorities, the police and the State control bodies. The Government guaranteed the safety of citizens so that they might protest peacefully,” he added.

The National Police assigned more than 23 thousand of its members, with their respective capacities, to contribute to the concentrations and facilitate security and coexistence during the demonstrations throughout the country.

The authorities hope that these actions will contribute to maintaining order and security during the demonstrations, thus guaranteeing the exercise of the right to protest in a peaceful and safe manner.
