“Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade provides Sudanese meat for Eid Al-Adha preparations in Egypt – Latest News and Updates”

Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade begins to provide regarding 150 Sudanese slaughtered animals in branches of consumer complexes nationwide, as part of its preparations for Eid Al-Adha.

Engineer Adel Rushdi, CEO of the Nile Company for Consumer Complexes affiliated to the Ministry of Supply, said that the pumping rates will be increased in the branches of the complexes successively to meet the growing needs of citizens, noting that new shipments of livestock are expected to arrive from Sudan and Djibouti.

He added that Sudanese meat is provided at a price of 195 pounds per kilo, pointing out that distribution operations are carried out according to specific timetables to ensure a balance in supply and meet the growing needs.

Rushdi stressed that the ministry is working on diversifying meat imports and securing strategic stocks, which helps to double the quantities pumped.

During the past few days, Egypt received regarding 4,000 head of cattle that were being held across the border with Sudan at the Qastal land crossing.

This truck is the first of its kind to arrive in Egypt since the beginning of the Sudanese crisis, and other shipments are expected to arrive during the coming period, with the approach of Eid Al-Adha.

Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, said that periodic meetings are being held to secure the arrival of contracted meat shipments from Sudan in light of the war conditions there.

The minister added that Egypt is studying diversifying the sources of importing meat and cows from Somalia and Chad as part of its strategy to enhance its stocks of basic commodities.

He added that there are 5,000 head of livestock currently present inside Al-Hajr in Egypt, and it is considered as the strategic stock for Egypt, which reaches 1.7 months.

The minister confirmed that a financial appropriation of $10 million has been opened to contract new shipments of livestock, pointing out that live meat will be provided from Djibouti and pumped into the ports as soon as it arrives.​
