The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will support 150 billion won in technology development for small and medium-sized enterprises in the nuclear power sector by 2027.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups held a technology innovation meeting for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the nuclear power plant at the DMC Tower of Small and Medium Business in Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 12th in the presence of 11 officials from public institutions, large enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises in the nuclear power sector, and announced the ‘R&D promotion plan for small and medium-sized nuclear power plants’. .

The direction of the plan announced by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is divided into three main directions: ▲ ecosystem restoration, securing future competitiveness, and strengthening win-win cooperation.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will first support KRW 21.5 billion in related fields to restore the industrial ecosystem, and will promote the support project announcement next month.

In addition, a mid- to long-term plan will be established within the year to invest a total of 150 billion won by 2027 in the technology development of small and medium-sized nuclear power plants.

Next year, a nuclear power plant-specialized R&D project will also be established.

In order to implement this plan, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups formed the ‘Nuclear SME Technology Innovation Study Group’ composed of industry, academia, and research experts in the nuclear power sector.

The study group will derive the technology fields and items to be supported prior to the announcement of the nuclear power plant industry ecosystem restoration project next month.

In addition, systematic support measures such as mid- to long-term technology development roadmap (2023-2027) will be presented to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups by December.

On this day, officials from participating organizations and companies also discussed ways to achieve win-win cooperation.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups decided to create an additional joint investment-type technology development investment fund of KRW 7.2 billion by 2024 to support technology development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) partners.
