Minister Young Lee “Continuous exchange and cooperation with OpenAI to help our startups grow”
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) service, visited Korea on the 9th and discussed ways to collaborate with domestic startups.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it had invited CEO Altman to Korea and held a meeting with domestic startups at 63 Square in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
Altman CEO and 7 executives attended OpenAI, and in Korea, 100 companies selected through review of collaboration plans and lottery among 334 startups that applied for participation in the conference attended.
The meeting lasted regarding 80 minutes, starting with an AI-related talk, followed by a startup Q&A and questions from reporters.
First of all, Minister of SMEs and Startups Lee Young and CEO Altman had a conversation regarding the purpose of their visit to Korea, how to collaborate with K-startups, and their intention to set up a Korean office. At this meeting, advice for junior founders was also given.
Following this, CEO Altman had a Q&A session with domestic startups.
The startups were asked regarding AI-related technical content and future business direction, such as OpenAI’s service, corporate and personal information protection policies, and copyright-related policies for products using ChatGPT.
Minister of SMEs and Startups Young Lee said, “The meeting was a meaningful place to directly confirm our curiosity regarding AI and open AI from CEO Sam Altman and seek cooperation. We will continue to exchange and cooperate with OpenAI so that we can grow.”
